Jim is a screenwriter, director, and producer.

His TV movies, miniseries and drama series have won or been nominated for over thirty-five Emmy Awards and Golden Globes. He has been twice nominated for Emmys and won the Emmy for Best Direction with the five-hour miniseries “Sinatra.” The ABC-TV/Hallmark Hall of Fame TV Movie A Smile as Big as the Moon was given a special award from the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences because of “its ability to inspire, inform, motivate and change lives.”

Jim left LA and moved to Woodstock, VT in 1998. Since 2018 he and his wife, Nerissa, have split their time between Woodstock and Savannah, GA where Jim is a Professor of Film and Television at the Savannah College of Art and Design.

Beauty and the Beazt was the fourth Zack’s Place musical Jim has written and co-directed with Dail.
